Dementia Friendly Washington County (DFWC) has joined the Dementia Friendly America network and is working closely with Washington County Government, The Alzheimer's Association Greater Maryland Chapter to align their efforts, ensuring that persons of all ages, cultures, abilities and interests can access the resources they need to create the life they choose. DFWC was formed in 2023 by a dedicated group of local individuals and organizations committed to raising awareness, decreasing stigma and increasing public understanding of living with dementia. We invite individuals from all sectors to join our efforts to make all domains of living age and dementia friendly.

A dementia friendly community has Increased awareness, innovative programming and resources help support persons living with dementia, memory challenges, Alzheimer’s, and their care partners, so that they can continue to create and experience meaningful lives. A dementia friendly community is informed, safe and respectful of these individuals across all sectors, so that they can access the resources they seek to experience a sense of belonging, purpose, well-being and home.
